Jessie Bayliss

I’m a freelance illustrator working across print and digital, specialising in nostalgic, botanical illustration and Victorian style lettering for high end food and drink brands.

I have always held a strong fascination for plants, wild insects & animals, nostalgia and the macabre. I grew up in a small rural village in Staffordshire. Whilst my parents renovated a 1920’s house, I spent most of my time in the garden and exploring the woods nearby with my brother. I can remember picking flowers and insects and studying them in detail, inspiration from nature was all around me.

The urge to draw everything around me and document my finds grew and so did my curiosity. I studied Illustration at Falmouth University where I continued to be inspired some truly incredible peers and my new seaside surroundings. I began to focus on scientific and botanical pen & ink illustration and Victorian era lettering. This soon informed a clean style which can bring nostalgia from the past into the 21st Century.

I have been lucky enough to work with a variety of wonderful clients, including agencies, Michelin starred chefs, cosmetic brands, restaurant groups and luxury shopping centres.
